West Ham United

Although better know as Upton Park (the area of London the ground is situated in) the official name of West Hams football ground is The Boleyn Ground, so named because the club rented the land from the the Roman Catholic Church who owned Boleyn House.

Like a lot of clubs the football ground was damaged during the war when a V-1 flying bomb landed on the pitch. The club were forced to play all of their games away, this didn’t seem to hinder them though as they won 9 consectutive games !!

The picture below is taken from a 70’s Football Review magazine and shows a view of the ground and a couple of the teams stars …. wonder how many of you can name them ?

The picture above is available for sale (along with loads more West Ham football memorabilia) on our main site Footybits, a link to which is at the top of this page.
